21st Century Treatments for Sustainable Elimination of Leishmaniasis

This programme will utilise innovative bi- and multilateral partnerships with pharmaceutical companies to translate recent scientific innovations into twenty-first century treatments for leishmaniasis. The treatments, combinations of highly-effective, orally-active drugs, are projected to achieve Sustainable Elimination of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) disease in Asia and Disease Control in Africa and Latin America as well as Control of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL). The programme supports the WHO VL Elimination framework that identifies building partnerships, and clinical and operational research as three of the five key strategies for achieving Elimination goals, and WHO’s objective of detection and treatment of CL patients.
