Transforming the South Asia Gallery

The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) is embarking on a £9.3m project to transform access to its South Asia collections at V&A South Kensington, creating a new world-leading gallery for the appreciation of one of the world’s most important and varied collections of South Asian art and design. Reopening in March 2028, this project will re-present and reinterpret the collection, creating a welcoming and visually arresting offer, complemented by a compelling, wide ranging activity programme onsite, offsite and online. Developed through consultation, co-design and coworking, the project will develop a gallery and a local and regional activities programme which is more representative of the diverse histories and cultures of South Asia. The project will have a far-reaching benefit by connecting and engaging with a new generation of British, and diasporic communities from across the UK so they can derive joy, inspiration, and knowledge from the V&A’s South Asia collection.
