The Scottish Government, on behalf of Scottish Ministers, wishes to commission research to improve understanding of historic state policies targeted at Gypsy/Traveller communities in Scotland during the 20th Century, colloquially known as the “Tinker Experiment” and “Tinker Housing Experiments”. The purpose of this contract is to carry out archival research to establish a timeline of key events, decisions and roles, and to estimate the extent to which these policies were implemented, in terms of the number, scale and locations of sites across Scotland and, where records allow, the number of individuals affected.
