NMIS are engaged in state of the art research and development activities funded by an industry partner with a view to creating new manufacturing equipment and processes that push the boundaries of existing technologies in pursuit of meeting the demands of end-users in the aerospace sector. Specifically, hot metal forming, handling and ancillary processes and equipment are the subject of this research. As a result, this undertaking requires the manufacture and supply of a forming die and fixing system for use in a heated platen press with the capability to support a variety of metal forming processes.
