The objective of this project is to build a confocal microscope with integrated electrophysiology. The set up will be prepared for performing high quality live brain slice imaging in combination with electrophysiological recordings. In addition, the microscope will be used for imaging fluorescently labelled fixed tissue at high resolution. Some of the structures (very fine astrocyte processes) or live events (e.g. Ca2+ signals) are equal or smaller than 150 µm in size. The ability to detect several fluorophores at the same time, at several frames per second for live imaging and with high level of resolution is essential for this system to meet the requirements.
