Legal services for the Scottish Parliament are provided by and through the Office of the Solicitor to the Scottish Parliament (OSSP). This includes legal advice and assistance to the Parliament and its committees, the Presiding Officer and the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body (SPCB). The service includes provision of legal advice to individual Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) relating to certain aspects of their parliamentary and constituency roles and in their role as an employer.There is a requirement for an external source of supply in order to ensure that specialist legal advice and assistance is available when required, and also on occasion to provide some flexibility in addressing peaks in workload
