SC have a prioritised asset management programme for the replacement of all lock gates in Scotland based on condition and risk and are now beginning a programme for the replacement of the priority gates.
This package of works is focusing on a number of the Crinan Canal Lock Gates (Lock Gates 1 to 4 and 5 to 8) and the Gairlochy Lock 17 U/S and Lock 18 D/S Gates on the Caledonian Canal.
Existing Crinan lock gates are either timber or composite steel and timber, whereas the Gairlochy gates have steel main structure and hardwood timber mitre posts and heel posts. Details for all Lock Gates can be found in Appendix A Drawings of the Works Package. The contractor will have to confirm all information provided on site during the surveys.
The new Lock Gates will be steel with hardwood timber seals or other appropriate alternative (e.g. rubber seals).
