AWARD NOTICE The Marine Biodiscovery Centre , Department of Chemistry, University of Aberdeen (MBC-UoA) has won an MRC/DFID Africa Research Leadership grant in collaboration with the Marine and Plant Research Laboratory of Ghana, Department of Chemistry, University of Ghana (UG) (project duration: 60 months). The overarching aim of this project is to discover two or more novel structures with novel mechanisms of action for further development into an antibiotic, antiparasitic or anticancer drug by exploring the huge microbial biodiversity of Ghana. In order to achieve the project objectives, UG require a powerful, efficient, robust and reliable High Performance Liquid Chromatography System-ELS Detection which can pick-up and detect molecules with no chromophores. The system will be based in the laboratories of UG, where most of the final purification of extracts to obtain very pure compounds will take place.
