Counselling Supervision

Counselling is a mental health intervention that children or young people can voluntarily enter into if they want to explore, understand and overcome issues in their lives which may be causing them difficulty, distress and/or confusion. A counselling relationship has identified boundaries and an explicit contract agreed between the young person, counsellor and, where appropriate, parent or carer.Counselling within secondary schools has been shown to bring about significant reductions in psychological distress in the short term, and help young people move closer towards their personal goals. Within primary schools, there is good evidence that counselling is associated with reductions in psychological difficulties, though a direct causal link has yet to be established.School staff, children and young people usually evaluate school-based counselling positively, viewing it as an effective way of bringing about improvements in mental health and wellbeing, and helping children and young people to engage with studying and learning. It is viewed as an accessible service, increasing the range of options available to children and young people who need to talk to a professional about problems in their lives.Counsellors are required to have clinical supervision, which is focused on ensuring safe and effective practice.Wrexham County Borough Council wishes to appoint Counselling Supervisors to provide the support required by counsellors and also to ensure the provision of a high-quality service to children and young people.NOTE: The authority is using eTenderwales to carry out this procurement process.
