This is a contract award notice under Regulation 9(10) of the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023 ("the PSR").
The contract for the Service ("the Contract") has now been awarded by Sunderland City Council ("the Council") under Direct Award Process C of the PSR to the existing provider, South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.
The Contract was awarded on 18th September 2026, following the previous publication by the Council of the notice of the intention to make an award of the contract to the existing provider and the completion of the standstill period at midnight of the 7th September 2026.
Description of the Relevant Health Services:
The Service will enable open access, cost effective and high quality provision of contraception and prevention, diagnosis and management of sexually transmitted infections. This will be provided according to evidence based guidance and adapted to the needs of the local populations.
The Service aims to improve sexual health by providing easy routes of access to interventions and ensuring sexual health and contraceptive needs can be met through a single service, usually by one health professional. The Service will offer extended opening hours and be provided in accessible locations.
The Provider will work with the Council to create and develop a service that manages Service Users' needs appropriately at all times and will meet the performance requirements of the Service.
For the purposes of this Service Specification, integrated service delivery is defined as an approach by which sexual health and contraceptive needs can be met through a single service, usually by one health professional.

The initial term of the Contract is for a period of five years with an option to extend the
Contract for up to a further two years at the discretion of the Council. The start date of the Contract is 1st October 2026.
The total estimated value of the Contract over its potential term is £17,848,12.00.
The award of this Contract is subject to the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023. For the avoidance of doubt, the provisions of the Procurement Act 2023 and Public Contract Regulations 2015 do not apply to the award of this Contract.
