New Cut Canal Bridge carries the A642 over the Calder and Hebble Navigation in Horbury Bridge.
The bridge is a single span masonry arch with reinforced concrete arch extension to the west side. The reinforced concrete arch was constructed in 1925 using the "Hennebique" system and was strengthened with a post tensioned reinforced concrete saddle in 1992.
The refurbishment works to comprise: -
⢠Masonry Section: comprising Arch intrados, east elevation (spandrels, parapet), north east and south east wing walls.
Raking out and repointing localised areas of loose and friable mortar, recessed joints and open joints to the structure.
Removal of all localised areas of moss and vegetation growth, and the repointing of associated mortar loss to the structure.
Cleaning of all dirt, staining, deposits and graffiti to the structure.
Repointing of cracking through mortar joints to the structure.
Repointing works to headwall of adjacent culvert and retaining wall to the south east of the bridge.
⢠Concrete Section: comprising west façade, reinforced concrete arch with saddle and south west wing wall.
Sealing of cracking to west elevation.
Steelwork repairs to parapet infill.
Maintenance painting to parapet.
Replacement of damaged and failed timber fender to south abutment.
Repair localised areas of spalled concrete and protection of exposed rebar to the south west wing wall.
Repoint localised cracking to north-west towpath retaining wall adjacent to the bridge.
