Delivery of the local Healthwatch function in Wigan Borough will see effective work with local people to understand what is important to them about local health services, and this information used to represent and improve their experiences.
Wigan Council is on an ongoing transformation journey to reshaping its services around the needs of people across their life course, and as part of wider work around Public Service Reform, to build resilience among residents to help them Start Well in life; Live Well, and Age Well.
Healthwatch as a function, at both national and local levels, was introduced following the Health and Social Care Act 2012.
Healthwatch was established to understand the needs, experiences and concerns of people who use health and social care services and to speak out on their behalf. They are a statutory committee of the independent regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
