The UK Ship Register (UKSR) is part of the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA), an executive agency of the UK Department for Transport.
Internally, the register has recently been integrated into a team full of technical, safety and surveying expertise under a directorate of the Maritime & Coastguard agency called UK Maritime Services.
The UK Ship Register is a commercial branch of the MCA whose function is the registration of vessels onto the UK flag. A vessel's registered nationality, or Flag, allows it to travel internationally as it is proof of ownership.
