Geology Services

Provision of on-site geology services during the drilling of a deep geothermal well in granite. (Eden Project, Cornwall, UK.)

Working with Eden Geothermal staff and with project delivery partners and contractors, the key responsibilities of the geology services provider will include, but may not be limited to:

--Attending daily morning drilling meetings

--Managing and assisting mud loggers with the recognition of lithology and structural intersections

--Management of sampling regime, collection, preparation and storage of drill cuttings

--Analysis of cuttings to cross reference with mud loggers' interpretation and improve daily formation evaluation logs

--Accurately recording cuttings recovery and inputting data into industry standard software, such as WellCAD

--Organising sample analysis at local laboratories, ensuring quick turn-around if needed

--Providing support, guidance and instruction to geology postgraduates assisting with sampling collection and analysis

--Liaison with Drilling Manager / Supervisor during daily look ahead

--Working with the Directional Driller to pre-empt structural geology on drilling parameters

--Working with mud engineers to look for evidence of formation fluids and changes in fluid chemistry

--Liaising and working with the Radiation Protection Advisor during drilling

--Liaison with project management team about geology results

--Assisting with the compilation and production of the well geology report

--Assisting with interpretation and presentation of geological data and findings for the general public

--Contributing to schools and public education programmes (including workshops, talks and resources)
