A specialist integrated sexual health service (ISHS) provides service users with open access to confidential, non-judgemental services including sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and blood borne viruses (BBV) testing (including HIV), treatment and management; HIV prevention including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis following sexual exposure (PEPSE); the full range of contraceptive provision; health promotion and prevention including relevant vaccination.
In addition to the standard ISHS service requirements the SWISH service specification has a greater focus on targeted prevention and outreach services to reduce inequalities in access and prevent unplanned pregnancies and the acquisition and transmission of STIs in target populations.
