The University currently owns and operates two Thermo Fisher Scientific X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometers: K-Alpha and Theta Probe.
These two instruments currently run on pre-Windows 10 computers, having not been upgraded since purchase. For each instrument we require:
i) Data system upgrade ii) USB3 Camera upgrade
The system upgrade must be compatible with the existing instruments' features:
K-Alpha:
⢠180° hemispherical analyser
⢠128-channel detector
⢠scanned and snapshot spectroscopy modes
⢠dual-beam charge neutralisation
⢠monoatomic Ar ion and Polyatomic Gas-Cluster Ion Beam (GCIB) source
⢠cluster sizes of 1000 and 2000 atoms
⢠depth profiling of metals and oxides as well as polymers and multi-layers
Theta Probe:
⢠180° spherical sector analyser
⢠60° Parallel ARXPS (no need to tilt the sample)
⢠scanned and snapshot spectroscopy modes
⢠dual-beam charge neutralisation
⢠monoatomic Ar ion and Polyatomic Gas-Cluster Ion Beam (GCIB) source
⢠cluster sizes of 1000 and 2000 atoms
⢠depth profiling of metals and oxides as well as polymers and multi-layers
⢠possibility to be linked with Raman spectrometer, for in situ measurements of XPS with Raman
This purchase is being funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)
