Following the award of a grant from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to Carlisle City Council in mid-2020 an opportunity to use a proportion of this funding to create a vibrant, new development utilising temporary infrastructure to offer affordable catering, commercial, artistic and retail units to start-ups and fledgling businesses in Carlisle was realised. Carlisle City Council (CCC) has worked closely with designers, architects and a range of other local stakeholders to make this opportunity a reality and plans for a temporary, five year, development utilising shipping container infrastructure at Bitts Park, Carlisle, were approved in March 2021.
