Woolley South Bridge is orientated East to West and carries the A61 Barnsley Road over an area of stagnant water. Woolley is located to the West and Notton to the East. The bridge comprises a Stone arch with stone abutments, wingwalls and parapets.
The arch barrel is heavily stained with visible wet areas. There is also loss of mortar and cracking to various areas of the structure. Vegetation growth is present to the wingwalls, with the East parapet wall completely covered by ivy.
The works comprise of the following.
a) Traffic management measures.
b) Site clearance.
c) Erection of temporary access scaffolding/platforms/pontoon.
d) Trial pits at required stages.
e) Cleaning of arch barrel.
f) Raking out and preparing joints in arch barrel (including fractures).
g) Pressure pointing to arch barrel.
h) Raking out and preparing joints to all other areas (excluding arch barrel).
i) Re-pointing to all other areas (excluding arch barrel).
j) Waterproofing behind arch ring extrados by injection of permeable membrane.
k) Installation of outlet pipes.
l) Installation of 2No. mortar joints in-between parapet and approach walls.
m) Installation of 2No. "Eco Dipper and Wagtail Box" to each end of arch barrel.
