Swindon Borough Council (SBC) Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Team (DoLS) are seeking to contract with an agency in the short term to provide good quality Best Interests assessments to assist with the current shortfall. As with the majority of other DoLS Teams nationally, SBC's demand for DoLS assessments exceeds the Teams current capacity.
We are seeking to contract with an agency to provide Best Interests Assessors (BIAs) only to complete relevant face-to-face assessments under the DoLS legal framework in the Swindon and Wiltshire geographical areas. This will include the mental capacity, age, no refusals and best interests assessments (completion of the full Form 3). All assessments are expected to be completed to a good standard, as per SBC's Form 3 guidance, which will enable the DoLS signatories to lawfully authorise the individual's deprivation of liberty; ensuring that robust evidence is provided to support this.
