Funerals, and the Collection, Storage and Transportation of the Deceased

Introduction to the procurement

• Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is an integrated organisation providing acute health care services, community health services and adult social care. The Authority runs Torbay Hospital, a number of community hospitals and health & wellbeing centres.
• The Trust requires a Supplier to enter into a Contract for the Provision of Funerals, and the Collection, Transportation and Storage of the Deceased from Torbay Hospital (only). The Contract will be awarded for 5 years, with the option to extend for two 12-month periods.
• The Trust co-ordinates and pays for Funeral arrangements for deceased:
• Adult patients who have no relatives to pay the cost of the funeral,
• Child patients
• Babies, non-viable foetuses and still births.
• The Trust also co-ordinates and pays for the transportation of:
• Deceased babies out of area for post mortem examination. Currently this is to/from St. Michaels Hospital, Southwell St., Bristol BS2 8EG.
• Organs (for research purposes) to other NHS Trusts. We have a current arrangement to transport fixed brains to the Neuropathology Department at Derriford Hospital, Derriford Rd, Plymouth PL6 8DH.
