The NPD is a geographical database that includes estimates of population in Great Britain, providing a local level of detail with consistent national coverage. It is organised into five themes representing different population types: Residential, Sensitive, Transport, Workplace and Leisure. The NPD has been used widely within central and local government as well as the private sector to provide information for demographic studies, including examining populations exposed to major hazard site risks, estimating the impact of flooding and the management of disease outbreaks.
