HOUNSLOW HEATH CAR PARK WORKS

Hounslow Heath has a high importance in Hounslow and is classed as a statutory Local Nature Reserve (under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act, 1949), is also classified as a Site of Metropolitan Importance for wildlife by the London Ecology Unit. There is an obligation of the London Borough of Hounslow to manage Hounslow Heath with due regard to the conservation of biodiversity which is covered under Section 40 the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006. Management for certain habitat types such as heathland, grassland and scrub communities is undertaken following National England HLS prescriptive guidelines.

The car park at Hounslow Heath was constructed using compacted gravel during the 1980's and the bays were unmarked. The adjacent green space were protected with logs. Today the condition of the surface is very poor, with deep undulations that are a risk to car bodywork and pedestrians. The barriers to the green spaces have long been removed resulting in major damage and loss of adjacent green spaces.
