Public Health funerals are required to be arranged by the Local Authority, which must make funeral arrangements for people who die or are found dead in their area where no other arrangements are being made. The arrangements will be simple but dignified with due respect being given to the deceased.
The Council receive 30-40 referrals via the coroner care homes and hospitals annually. In many instances officers will trace a relative who will take responsibility for arranging a funeral. The remaining referrals process to a public funeral.
