Ofcom has a requirement for market data informing our understanding of the role connected TV platforms play in the UK TV market, i.e. the extent to which consumers use streaming-based interfaces (on smart TVs, streaming boxes/sticks, etc.) to access TV and video content and services. Tracking take-up and usage of different connected TV platforms - the specific user-interfaces viewers use - is important in the context of our work: monitoring how UK audiences are broadly served; reviewing the effectiveness of the PSB system, including the availability, prominence and performance of PSB services online; and assessing the impact of connected TV gateways on competition and consumers' access to content.
