The charity is set up to connect capital with communities, social enterprises and the Third Sector in Scotland, in service of creating an Impact Economy. It achieves this through managing loan funds raised by external investors such as banks or the Scottish Government (from which a management fee is extracted), lending from its own unrestricted funds, or by equity investing in promising private businesses. Additionally, the charity runs events and workshops to build the market for social enterprise, facilitating funding opportunities and developing commercial and leadership skills. The charity also campaigns and works with public bodies to further the adoption of policy and legislation that works to deliver social good.
