Working alongside City of Edinburgh Council and Historic Environment Scotland, we are charged with looking after Edinburgh’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our purpose is to ensure that World Heritage status is actively used to benefit everyone who lives in, works in or visits the city, while safeguarding the site’s outstanding universal value for future generations. The charity achieves this by providing funding and grants to support the repair and restoration of historic buildings and public spaces. As external experts, we offer both formal and informal advice to the City of Edinburgh Council on its proposals for changes to the streetscape. Edinburgh World Heritage initiates and delivers practical conservation and improvement projects across the city and engages people through education, events and community programmes.
