About UKGovscan

UKGovscan is an independent database of the UK public record, built to make government, political and corporate information easier to find, connect and understand.

Public information in the UK is extensive, but it is published across hundreds of datasets, registers and public bodies. Procurement records, political donations and company filings are each held in separate places. UKGovscan brings these records together in a single searchable database.

Its purpose is to make the relationships between public money, organisations and people easier to trace.

Coverage

UKGovscan collects records published by official sources, including Contracts Finder, Find a Tender, Companies House, the Electoral Commission, Parliament, the Charity Commission, central government departments and local authorities.

The database currently includes more than:

  • 656,000 public contracts

  • 245,000 suppliers

  • 93,000 political donations

  • 19.4 million government payments

  • 1.5 million grants

  • 429,000 charities

Records are updated as new information is published by the organisations responsible for the underlying data.

The full list of sources is set out on the Data sources page.

Connected records

UKGovscan connects records from different parts of the public record so that they can be examined together.

A company profile can bring together the company’s public contracts, directors, political donations and other relevant records. An MP’s declared interests can be viewed alongside information about the organisations concerned, and local authority spending can be examined alongside the suppliers that received the payments.

UKGovscan does not alter the underlying figures. Records are presented on the basis of information published by their original sources, and individual records link back to those sources wherever possible.

Connecting the records in this way allows users to move from a single name, organisation or transaction to the related public record, without searching multiple government websites and registers separately.

Users and subscriptions

UKGovscan is intended for anyone who needs to understand the organisations, people and money that appear in the UK public record.

This includes journalists, researchers, public affairs professionals, businesses, investors, charities, campaigners and members of the public.

Searching the database is free.

Subscribers can track organisations and people, receive alerts when new information is published, and query the database in plain English. Subscription options are set out on the pricing page.

Independence

UKGovscan is published by Elenchos Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales.

UKGovscan is funded entirely by subscriptions. It accepts no funding from government, political parties or organisations appearing in the database, and has no affiliation with the UK Government or Parliament.

The presence of a person, organisation, payment, contract, donation, interest or other record on UKGovscan does not in itself imply wrongdoing. UKGovscan brings together information from the public record; users should consider each record in its proper context and refer to the original source where appropriate.
